A PPH is a bilateral mechanism that allows IP offices to share the work generated by the first patent office in which an application is filed with the second office.

The APO and JPO stated their intent to start a pilot PPH at a meeting of the heads of both patent offices on May 19. More information on this and other PPHs involving the JPO is available on the

Both pilot programmes will last one year.
