New ways to find finance in the downturn

Companies need to look beyond the “much maligned” form of securitization when seeking ways to use their brands to obtain finance, according to a panel yesterday

“It will be a little while before another set of large securitizations takes place,” said Andrew Robinson of Deloitte in the UK, who spoke at the session.

Robinson discussed the pros and cons of securitization, which involves pooling and repackaging financial assets into securities that are then sold to investors. Robinson said that, although the word securitization was “much maligned,” the problems that have been caused are not connected with the structure, but with the process of valuation.
