Controversial Indian report republished

The Indian government has republished a controversial report on the patentability of pharmaceuticals and microorganisms
The revised report, officially known as the Report of the Technical Expert Group on Patent Law Issues but referred to by the name of its chairman, R A Mashelkar, was made public last month.
It concludes that the country would breach the WTO TRIPs Agreement if it limited pharmaceutical patents to new chemical entities or excluded microorganisms from the patent system.
These are same conclusions as those contained in the initial report, which was published in December 2006. It was later withdrawn after it emerged that the wording of a number of the report's conclusions was similar to wording used in a report written by Shamnad Basheer for the UK's Intellectual Property Institute which was submitted...
