Hermès wins record trade mark damages in Taiwan

French luxury goods maker Hermès has won trade mark damages of NT$256 million ($7.5 million) from Taiwan’s newly-established specialist IP Court

The award is the highest for trade mark infringement ever made in Taiwan.

The defendant, Joyce Lee, a former employee of the company who had moved into selling counterfeits, has not appealed the March 26 judgment.

"This decision shows that businesses on the island can expect to have their IP concerns taken seriously and that the IP Court can handle their cases in a more streamlined, effective manner," said Christine Chen, an associate at Winkler Partners, who acted for Hermès in the case.
