EU pharma sector enquiry slammed

The European Commission’s pharmaceutical sector enquiry could have “a chilling effect on innovation in Europe” if the preliminary report is carried through into its final version, according to a pharmaceutical company executive
Speaking during the Fordham IP Conference in Cambridge, UK, David Rosenberg of GlaxoSmithKlines IP department said the preliminary report presented a flawed understanding of the patent system and its relation to pharmaceutical innovation.
He said many of the statistics in the report were simplistic, while others were meaningless. Definitions were unclear and the report as a whole showed an incomplete understanding of the patent and research process.
