iiNet starts defence in Australian copyright infringement case

Australian internet service provider (ISP) iiNet has launched a strong defence in a closely-watched copyright infringement case

The hearing took place in a Federal Court on Wednesday last week and iiNet is expected to further clarify its position on whether its users are committing copyright infringement later this week.

On November 20 last year, a coalition of Australian film makers took iiNet to court to test the liability for online copyright infringement in Australia.

The coalition is claiming that iiNet did not take enough action to prevent its users from illegally sharing files over BitTorrent networks, despite being presented with evidence by the companies.
