Chinese company tops PCT application list

Chinese telecoms company Huawei Technologies was the largest filer of PCT applications in 2008, according to statistics published by WIPO today

The Shenzhen-based company filed 1,737 PCT applications during the year, taking first place from second-ranked Panasonic (formerly Matsushita) from Japan, which filed 1,729. Huawei rose three places from its position in 2007.

Dutch company Philips ranked third, followed by Toyota of Japan and Bosch of Germany.

Other notable risers were Ericsson of Sweden, which rose 12 places to ninth; German company Continental, which rose 284 places to 24th (filing 485 applications in 2008 compared to 50 in 2007); and computer company Apple which rose 129 places to...
