Managing Intellectual Property

WIPO director general Francis Gurry said on Tuesday that the Organisation would like to see more participation by Latin American countries in the PCT

He was speaking to attendees of the XIV Work Session and Administrative Council meeting of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) via a two-way live video conference during an all-day colloquium on the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

According to ASIPI president Martin Michaus, the colloquium was organised in association with FICPI, AIPLA and WIPO to educate ASIPI members about the PCT process.

Michaus said that, as a result of their accession to treaties such as the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), many more Latin American countries have become party to the PCT, so it will be increasingly important for practitioners to understand and use the international patent filing scheme.
