The DVB-T licensing programme includes the administration of all DVB-T patent portfolio licences.
Effective August 26, licences under DVB-T-essential patents, which were previously administered by MPEG LA and licensees, will be available from Sisvel as an alternative to negotiating separate licences with individual patent owners.
DVB-T is the Italian terrestrial digital television broadcast standard, and the DVB-T patent pool offers access to patents owned by France Télécom, Matsushita Electric Industrial, and JVC.
Sisvel's experience of managing patent portfolios includes those relating to the audio compression standards known as MP3 and MPEG Audio, and widespread technologies such as OSD (On Screen Display), ATSS (Automatic Tuning & Sorting System), and WSS (Wide Screen Signalling - for automatic switching of television image formats).
In March, MPEG LA agreed to drop lawsuits pending in Düsseldorf against seven European companies in return for them signing licences to the MPEG-2 portfolio.
