Reform dominates list of 50 most influential people

Managing Intellectual Property

Managing IP’s list of the 50 most influential people in IP this year is dominated by figures involved in IP reform and policy discussions

The sixth annual list is published in the July/August issue of Managing IP (available to subscribers and free triallists).

This year’s list is divided into two parts, with the top 10 most influential people profiled in more detail.

The top 10 includes USPTO director Jon Dudas, GlaxoSmithKline’s head of IP Sherry Knowles, newly elected WIPO head Francis Gurry, Margot Fröhlinger of the European Commission, Chief Judge Paul Michel of the Federal Circuit and Li Qunying of China Customs.

These figures are all involved in big debates in IP worldwide, such as patent reform in the US, the USPTO rule changes, the introduction of a Community patent and litigation system in Europe, the National IP Strategy and patent law revisions in China and international enforcement.

Other figures in the list include people engaged in cutting-edge topics such as counterfeiting and the fight against it, the development of standards and new problems raised by the internet.

Campaigners active in areas such as access to medicines and people developing new licensing, enforcement and acquisition strategies also feature prominently.

The list of the 50 most influential people is put together by Managing IP’s reporters and features politicians, legislators, government officials, campaigners, judges, industry representatives and others who are shaping IP policy and practice worldwide.

The July/August issue is available online now to Managing IP subscribers, and also includes in-depth analysis of the US Supreme Court’s Quanta decision, a look at the launch of new top-level domain names, a global guide to laws on privilege and special sections on India and the Nordic states.

Non-subscribers can obtain free trial access for a limited period.
