WIPO update: Slovenian and Macedonian nominees eliminated

Slovenian candidate Bojan Pretnar and Macedonian nominee Gjorgji Filipov were the first two contenders to be eliminated at the end of the first half of day one of the WIPO director-general elections

The WIPO Coordination Committee met today at 10am to elect its new director-general. The proceedings started with a straw poll where member states submitted their first and second choice candidates on the voting paper. Francis Gurry of Australia led the straw poll securing 24 first choice votes and 11 second choice votes. He was followed by Brazilian nominee José Graça Aranha with 13 first choice and...
