Bird & Bird is to expand its network of offices to Helsinki after finalizing a merger with domestic firm Fennica Attorneys last week
The Finnish practice, which will be known as Bird & Bird Attorneys Ltd from May 1, is the latest addition to the firms list of European offices. Bird & Bird already has an office in neighbouring Sweden.
Jori Taipale, managing partner of Fennica, said that more Finnish companies are expanding their operations overseas and, as a result, want high quality legal services outside of Finland. He said that the law firm merger was designed to meet that demand.
David Kerr, CEO of Bird & Bird said: "The Fennica brand is very strong and has been built on the excellent reputation of its lawyers. This, combined with our Sweden-Finland axis, sector focus and excellent record of international growth, makes for a compelling proposition for clients, potential clients and recruits."
Fennica comprises 33 lawyers and had a turnover of 9.67 million for the last financial period.
