South Korean firms form strategic partnership

Full-service law firm Yulchon has formed a strategic partnership with YP Lee Mock & Partners, a specialist in prosecution work.

Young Hill Liew, head of the IP practice at Yulchon, told Managing IP that the alliance will not be a formal partnership because alliances between lawyers and other professions are prohibited under Korean law. Liew said the firms will remain separate and continue to use different names but “will cooperate with each other when needed”.

This means that Yulchon will be able to call on the expertise of patent attorneys from YP Lee Mock & Partners when needed for complex litigation.

YP Lee Mock & Partners is one of the largest IP law firms in Korea, with 19 partners and 89 associates. Yulchon has three partners and eight associates.
