Buchanan patent group moves to Crowell & Moring

Washington DC firm Crowell & Moring has added seven former Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney patent attorneys to its intellectual property group.

The group includes partners E Joseph Gess, Melissa Hayworth and Teresa Stanek Rea, all of whom have expertise in chemical-related matters.

Gess previously served as chair of Buchanan Ingersoll’s chemical practice group, as well as head of the firm’s Alexandria and Silicon Valley offices. His practice focuses on chemistry, biotechnology, litigation and trade marks.

Rea formerly chaired Buchanan Ingersoll’s biotechnology practice group and specializes in litigation, and patent preparation and prosecution. Rea will also become president of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) in October 2008.

Hayworth’s resume includes in-house experience at Roche Bioscience and 3M Innovative Properties, in addition to working as a research chemist at Burroughs Wellcome. Her practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, and providing opinions on validity and freedom to operate.

All of the partners will be based in Washington DC.
