New UK minister appointed

Managing Intellectual Property

Baroness Morgan is to replace Lord Triesman, who was the UK's first minister for intellectual property

Triesman was appointed to the newly created post last summer, but recently stepped down to head the Football Association.

Baroness Morgan

Delyth Jane Morgan became Baroness Morgan of Drefelin in 2004 and is a government whip in the House of Lords. She was previously government spokesperson for communities and local government and for work and pensions.

She was moved to replace Triesman as part of a government reshuffle on January 24 and is listed on the website of the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) as the minister for IP. However, a DIUS spokesperson told Managing IP  that the division of ministerial responsibilities had not yet been decided and would be finalized this week.

As minister for intellectual property and quality, Lord Triesman was responsible for the UK IP Office as well as educational issues such as student loans and quality in higher education.
