Jones Day boosts China IP team

Full service law firm Jones Day has hired two lawyers to join its China IP team as of counsel.

Steven Cui joins the firm’s Beijing office and Daniel Mao will split his time between the firm’s Silicon Valley and Shanghai offices.

Cui spent seven years as in-house counsel at biotechnology corporation Genentech in San Francisco. He will focus on patent procurement, technology licensing and global IP strategy for Jones Day.

Mao joins the firm from US IP boutique Townsend and Townsend and Crew. He specializes in strategic patent counselling, portfolio management and licensing negotiation.

In August Jones Day announced the hires of partners Peggy Cheung. Anita Leung and Chiang Ling Li and of counsel Helen Tang to the firm’s Hong Kong office.

Then in October US full-service firm Troutman Sanders poached Jones Day associate Sebastian Hughes and promoted him to partner.
