The European Commission is to launch a two-month public
consultation next week on whether software processes can be
patented before making a decision on the issue next year. The
action comes after the US recently allowed software processes to be
patented. There is a division between those arguing that similar
rules in Europe would prevent competition and those who say it
would discourage innovation.
