In the latest in a long line of disputes over intellectual
property infringements between foreign and Chinese car firms, GM
Daewoo Auto & Technology is suing Chery Automobile, accusing
the Chinese company of copying its design.
Part of the US General Motors group, GM Daewoo Auto &
Technology has filed a lawsuit with the Shanghai Number Two
Intermediate Court, accusing its Chinese rival of violating the
Anti-Unfair Competition Law by copying GM Daewoo's trade
secrets.
GM Daewoo says that there are "extreme similarities" between its
Chevrolet Spark, (itself based on Daewoo's Matiz mini-car) and
Chery's QQ model. GM Daewoo has licensed SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile,
a General Motors joint venture based in Guangxi province, to
manufacture and distribute the Spark in China.
