In the modern world, influence takes many forms. While prominent
legislative and corporate positions bestow influence on the office
holder, wide media exposure can confer a level of prominence
disproportionate to a person's position. When deciding who to
include, MIP's editorial team had to start by defining the
criteria. Senior legislators obviously have influence shaping IP
policy around the globe (together with lobbyists), while business
leaders not only have a voice in the lawmaking process, but also
hold the largest portfolios - portfolios which, when properly
handled, dictate how much of the world's technology can be used.
But influence is not just confined to the governments and
corporates.
